Fudge as Food or for Face

In Beauty, Recipe, Skin care on May 30, 2010 at 00:07

Meghan Telpner, you are a genius!

This sweet-toothed nutritionist and holistic lifestyle consultant has created a series of delicious recipes – which can be used either as a beauty product, or they can be snacked upon.  Same recipe – no joke.  According to Ms Telpner,

“Are you getting it yet? That everything we put on skin is edible (and delicious are that!)”

Here is her latest musing: chocolate fudge, besides being the ultimate sweet treat = antioxidants and a bajillion other benefits for your skin.

Read her mouth watering and skin soothing recipe, along with all the benefits chocolate has for your skin, right here.

PS I will update after I try this mask for myself!

The Lazy Man’s Mac and Cheese

In Recipe on May 28, 2010 at 09:40

This is my mac and cheese.  It doesn’t require eight different (expensive) cheeses, vigourous whisking, or making a roux.  It is just scrumptiously cheesy, incredibly rustic, and ridiculously easy to make.  It reminds me of a mac and cheese that a friend’s grandmother made that I once tried and loved.  Best of all, it holds up in the fridge really well, so you could make a batch and feast off it for a few meals.  Now don’t expect some rich saucy type mac and cheese.  You’ve already been told that I’m not a fan of sauce. Things to be Found Only at Chinese Walmarts

In International, Novelty on May 23, 2010 at 00:08

I wasn’t even aware they had Walmarts in China. Apparently, they do.

Some of my favourites in this list include pigs faces and assorted dried reptiles.

1000 bonus points to anyone who can identify #6.

Rigatoni with Meat Sauce

In Recipe on May 20, 2010 at 13:58

This is what I call comfort food.

I’m not a big fan of sauces that are too runny, too watery – too much liquid and not enough substance.  I also love thick noodles, perfect for soaking up cheese and sauce.  This is why this dish here puts a smile on my face.  I ate on the couch, cuddled under a blanket, this while watching something terribly chick-flicky like While You Were Sleeping.  Perfect night in.

Crumb Topped Banana Muffins on City Bandit

In Recipe on May 18, 2010 at 02:50

I love breakfast.

This is the one meal I rarely ever skip, with the exceptions of the weekend mornings that I sleep in and then promptly resort to brunch.

My breakfasts during the week generally consist of a yogurt, a bowl of oatmeal, and fruit – usually chopped berries or a banana.  Everything is prepped to be on-the-go.  I usually eat my breakfast standing up as I wait for the metro, or at the hostess desk of the restaurant where I work, chowing down while I check reservations. Top Chef Canada

In Canada, Food TV on May 17, 2010 at 20:21

Yes! It is finally happening! Top Chef is coming to Canada!

After Quebec announced it would be having it’s own version of Top Chef (but more for amateur, aspiring chefs than the real deals), I guess Food Network Canada stepped up.

Head judge: none other than Mark McEwan.

How exciting! I’m hoping to see a few familiar faces.

Ew. Pizza Hut.

In Criticisms, Novelty on May 17, 2010 at 20:18

I’ve always had a soft spot for Pizza Hut.  I have lots of memories of being taken there as a kid by my parents, always loving that greasy crust, cheesy pizza, coke out of large plastic cups and an ample supply of crayons.

However, sometimes restaurant chains commit fast food crimes that are simply unforgivable.

Take for example the newest bad kid on the block – and when I say bad, I mean really, really terrible: KFC’s new Double Down.

A sandwich with cheese, bacon, sauce, and two pieces of fried chicken that replace the sandwich buns.  That’s right, no buns – just fried chicken. Click to keep reading why I hate creative fast food.

Bocadillo on City Bandit

In Montreal, Review on May 10, 2010 at 22:40

I went again today to Bocadillo, a hole-in-the-wall on St-Laurent with crazy amazing Venezuelan food.  I was introduced to this place by a friend one night after school.  At first, my usual starving nature after class led me to fear that the food at Bocadillo was only good under hunger-fueled delusion.  After several other takes at this place, I can firmly assert that no, Bocadillo is just plain good.

Now, I can’t say I’m a pro on what crazy amazing Venezuelan food is, but the intense number of South American individuals that flock this place make me pretty sure I’m right.

This right here is the shizzle, and my order of choice: carne mechada empanada, tequenos, side of guasacaca. (Photo taken by my equally drooling roommate, Carlo.)
